Tesla Recalls Over 27,000 Cybertrucks Due to Rearview Camera Issue

Industry giant Tesla initiates a recall of more than 27,000 Cybertrucks over rearview camera delay, contributing to a decline in share value.

Tesla is recalling over 27,000 Cybertrucks due to a flaw in the vehicle's rearview camera system. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) informed the public that the Cybertrucks, under certain conditions, might not boot up instantly upon command, causing a delay in the display of the rearview camera's image beyond the legally mandated two seconds, increasing the accident risk.

Tesla's recall affects Cybertrucks manufactured between November 13, 2023, and September 14, 2024. The vehicles in question have or had a particular software logic catering to low voltage hardware. The company began rolling out an over-the-air software fix around September 19, applicable to all affected production units. This event marks the fifth recall for the Cybertruck model since its initial deliveries started last November.

The Cybertruck recall caused Tesla shares to fall by 2.3% to $243.52 in the early trading hours on Thursday. Furthermore, the company's shares have experienced a roughly 2% decrease since the beginning of the year.
